Unlocking opportunities: 20 Mitchells Plain homeowners receive title deeds

The City’s Human Settlements Directorate and its Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, today, 11 October 2023, handed over 20 title deeds to beneficiaries of delayed transfer properties in the Mitchells Plain area.
These beneficiaries historically purchased their properties from the various former municipalities on a loan/instalment basis, mostly prior to 1994. The City will continue to assist more residents across the metro in the weeks and months to come.
'I am thrilled to have the opportunity to hand over more title deeds today. We are absolutely committed to enabling redress and to providing opportunities to those who most need it. We're helping to create brighter futures for our residents. Our title deeds programme is important as it empowers beneficiaries as property owners with access to tenure to unlock a life of purpose and potential.
'We encourage all beneficiaries to come forward to claim their title deeds. It will help these residents in formalising their home ownership as well as provide them with security of tenure. Over the next few months, we will accelerate the transfer of ownership and delivery of title deeds across the City. Cape Town is committed to land reform that works, and access to tenure through title is the right way to do so.
'We have assisted hundreds of residents with their title deeds in areas across the city and we thank the Human Settlements officials for their hard work. We look forward to assisting many more residents in other areas and will keep all eligible residents updated.
